Who Will Be the New World Heavyweight Champion: ‘The Best in the World’ or 'Main Event' Jey Uso?
On last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Jey Uso won a battle royal to earn the opportunity to face CM Punk for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1st. The Second City Saint became the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship on the October 13th episode of Raw, but after the match, the Vision betrayed Seth Rollins, who was the World Heavyweight Champion at the time. After their attack, the title became vacant, thus setting Uso and Punk on a collision course to determine who will hold Raw’s top prize. Punk is one of the most polarizing superstars of all time, and his journey to becoming world champion again is documented. Jey Uso is trying to reclaim the championship he won at WrestleMania in April. Only one man can call himself world champion after November 1st; so who will it be?
Both superstars have held the world title in 2025. Jey Uso’s journey to winning the title in the opening match of WrestleMania XLI was one of the highlights to begin 2025. However, after dropping the belt to Gunther in June of this year, the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble winner has remained in contention to win the title back, but has yet to capture it. Also, ever since Roman Reigns has come back, he seems to be taking Jey Uso under his wing and influencing his recent new attitude change, something that is not sitting well with his twin brother, Jimmy Uso. It seems that the dynamic between the three family members will play out for the remainder of 2025 and could bleed its way to the start of 2026. CM Punk, on the other hand, won the world championship from Gunther at SummerSlam and only held it for five minutes before Rollins pulled a ruse and cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. Punk and Rollins have been feuding for the majority of 2025, and another chapter in their rivalry was set to be written at the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, with the title being vacated, plans had to change. Now, with his sights set to become world champion again, the Straight Edge Savior has to defeat ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso to call himself World Heavyweight Champion again.
Overall, both Punk and Uso are two of the most popular stars in the WWE today. Both men have held the world championship and have been in the main event picture throughout 2025. Now, with both men staking a claim to be the top guy on Raw again, they are set to go one-on-one to determine who will be the Red Brand’s top champion going forward. One man will have their defining moment in Salt Lake City, and the WWE Universe is patiently anticipating seeing who will emerge as the new World Heavyweight Champion.
