Why Jaxson Dart Was a Better Choice for New York Then Shedeur Sanders
There has been a lot of debate going on about the Giants' new rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart. Many fans are not thrilled that New York picked him up during this year's draft. Other fans are all for having him as the future New York Giants starting quarterback. The original choice for the Giants was to draft Shedeur Sanders, but after meeting with Sanders before the draft, the Giants figured out that they had to go elsewhere for a new quarterback. There are several reasons that the Giants decided to go with Dart over Sanders.
Dart is already considered to be a much better runner and more athletic than Sanders. A trait that is huge when it comes to looking for value in NFL quarterbacks. He has great mobility and knows how to rush quicker than Sanders does. Sanders is considered to be a more traditional quarterback who just passes the ball. Not what a lot of the NFL teams are looking for.
Dart also has experience in being pressured. He has always played in these types of environments, such as the SEC for Ole Miss while he was in college. He was regularly tested under top-tier defenses such as Alabama, LSU, and Georgia defenses. Sanders, on the other hand, has faced PAC-12 and Big 12 competition. It has not consistently matched up with Dart's experience, who has played on the lighter side of things.
Lastly, the Giants wanted someone who could be a leader. This is where Dart has come in and has taken command of the huddle, adjusted the offense where it needs to be, and executed explosive plays. He is also the type of person who knows how he should take critiques that will be coming down from both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Sanders would not be able to take this type of critique from these quarterbacks. Considering that his dad, Deion Sanders, will be with him wherever he goes, he will be in control of what he will and won’t do for the team. With him going to the Browns, things may be a little different. Many were surprised that he did not go to the Giants in the first place, and now have an understanding as to why New York drafted Dart over him.
It’s a really great look for the Giants, especially with this long-term plan. Dart will be easy to teach, and it was one of the best decisions that the Giants made. He may not be as polished as Sanders, but he definitely has more potential. The Giants wanted someone who could be more mobile in the future. So, New York got exactly what they needed.
