Why the Giants Need to Keep Their 29-Year-Old Wide Receiver in 2026

NFL

The New York Giants have their work cut out for them this offseason, with many decisions to make before the NFL Draft in April. One of those decisions is what to do with their current wide receiver, Wan'Dale Robinson, who is now a free agent. This 29-year-old wide receiver was the Giants’ top star last season when it came to the run game. New York needs to decide whether to bring him back again for next season or if they should let him go into free agency. The decision will be rather large, considering where they currently stand with rebuilding the team.

Last season, Robinson was put into a big role because of Malik Nabers’ being out for the year due to a torn ACL. He played in a total of 16 games and recorded four touchdowns. The 29-year-old caught 92 of the 140 targets that were passed to him. This wide receiver also recorded his first 1,000-yard season with Big Blue. With those statistics, the Giants should bring him back for the 2026 season. They have someone who gets the job done when they need him to.

Robinson was the difference-maker for the Giants last season. He has proven that his chemistry works with the Giants’ offensive core. He’s been a very quarterback-friendly option while on the field. It doesn’t matter if he’s running slots or he’s in motion, Jaxson Dart has always found a way to get the ball out to him. The skill set that he has carried compliments bigger perimeter targets and gives this Giants offense a different tempo to work with. In a system that has struggled, Robinson has been the guy with the quickness and the routes to get the ball moved. Letting him walk would be a terrible mistake on the Giants’ part, and another player who knows the scheme and the culture of the locker room that they have let go.

The 29-year-old wide receiver wasone of the most explosive players on the field last season. He’s not just a gadget; he’s a yardage threat to many. He has been able to take a 20-yard run and extend it. The Giants have been a team that has lacked explosion. There were hints of it earlier last season, before the team fell apart due to injury. When he is ready to play and is healthy, Robinson can stretch plays and open up opponents’ defenses who are trying to stop him. Replacing this type of player who has this suddenness, the 29-year-old has not guaranteed in either the draft or free agency.

Robinson also shows the type of player he is and adds to what the Giants are trying to build. A team that is full of toughness, versatility, and players who embrace the big moments that come during the regular season. All of which New York is trying to build in the 2026 season. He competes no matter what to be the higher man and takes the contact that comes his way. In a division where this young team is put up against aggressive defensive lines, this is the type of mentality that matters. Robinson has what Big Blue needs.

The Giants really need to think over their options before making a decision on him for the coming season. They have a great player in this running back. Robinson has been a star for New York, and it's only going to get better from there. If they let him go, the Giants will be right where they were before, at the bottom and trying to rebuild a team once again. Bringing him back sends a message that the organization values homegrown talent and offensive continuity heading into a pivotal season that could be fantastic if they could use their players the right way.
