Why the Intercontinental Champion Should Be the Face of AAA?
For the past few months, Dominik Mysterio has been promoting himself as the “King of the Luchadors” every chance he can get. This all started at the Worlds Collide event, where the Intercontinental Champion called out Octagon Jr for a fight, which resulted in Mysterio picking up a win over him at Money in the Bank. Since then, the Judgement Day member has sneaked into AAA and attacked Vikingo, the AAA Mega Champion, and is involved in a feud with Dragon Lee on Monday Night Raw. As a result of these feuds, Mysterio finds himself in a Fatal Four-Way match for the AAA Mega Championship against his two rivals and El Grande Americano, who is Ludwig Kaiser. If Mysterio were to win this match, he would be a double champion and would hold AAA’s top championship. Yet, this is an opportunity to elevate Rey Mysterio’s son into another stratosphere by giving him the chance to be the star of a brand recently acquired by the WWE and the opportunity to continue to carve his legacy.
AAA is still relatively new to most WWE fans, and putting the brand's top title on Mysterio would elevate the Lucha Libre promotion and add some recognition to its new fanbase. Winning the top prize at TripleMania, AAA’s biggest event, would be a huge milestone in the 28-year-old wrestler’s career. Right now, the “greatest Mysterio of all-time” is riding a wave of momentum that the WWE and AAA should capitalize on. Since winning the Intercontinental title at WrestleMania XLI, Mysterio’s connection with the WWE Universe has grown stronger, and he continues to receive some of the loudest ovations on the card. With that connection growing stronger every day, despite being a heel, and with him still holding the IC title, the groundwork has been paved for Mysterio to reach the top of the AAA summit.
It is clear that right now, the WWE has faith and trust that Mysterio will be a big-time superstar and will be the face of AAA moving forward. The former NXT North American Champion is hot right now, and it is time to strike while the iron is hot. As the WWE begins to develop its superstars for the future, Mysterio will look to factor into those plans. The wrestler who started off being known as Rey Mysterio’s son has now started building the foundation of his legacy. A legacy where he will stand as his own man, and one of the highlights will be when he was the face of the biggest lucha libre promotion in the world.
