Will a 25-Year-Old Bears DB Find Redemption Against the Commanders?
The Chicago Bears will take on the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football, in what has many storylines written all over it. Quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels have begun a rivalry created by the fans, which is natural considering they were the top two picks of the 2024 NFL Draft. While Daniels would have a better rookie season and make it to the NFL Playoffs, Williams has been the better quarterback so far in 2025 and has led the Bears on a two-game winning streak. These quarterbacks will duel once again, after the infamous tipped Hail Mary led Daniels and the Commanders to defeat the Bears heartbreakingly. The player who was responsible for the tipped throw was cornerback Tyrique Stevenson.
Stevenson would be shown later on camera talking to the Commanders’ fans just seconds before the ball was snapped. This loss of focus led Stevenson to tip the ball into the air and ultimately be caught by wide receiver Noah Brown. This moment would send the Bears’ corner’s career into a tailspin. He would be constantly targeted by opposing teams’ offenses, with them now learning he was a weakness on the defense. The Bears would not win another game the rest of the season until Week 18, when they’d take down the Green Bay Packers. “It hurt my feelings,” Stevenson said. “Even when my son grows up, I’ve got to explain that to him.”
Stevenson is using the unfortunate moment as fuel for this Monday’s game. After the Bears lost their number one cornerback in Jaylon Johnson early in this season, Stevenson has stepped up. In four games, he currently has an interception, a forced fumble, and 14 solo tackles. Rather than being a negative like last season, Stevenson has become one of the brightest spots on the Chicago defense. Bears fans have noticed that the attitude in Stevenson has changed since the beginning of the season, looking more confident, which has led to better results. Bears fans will now be eager to see what player they get this Monday night, and if Stevenson could potentially release the pressure he’s had on him since last year.
