Will ‘Cero Miedo’ Challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship in Mexico in 2026?
At the conclusion of the August 3rd edition of Monday Night Raw, as Roman Reigns made his way to the back, he was stopped by Rey Mysterio. He mentioned to the ‘OTC’ that he was the general manager of AAA and asked if he could bring something up to him. The show ended with Mysterio and Reigns walking away together as the screen went black. A few days later, Mysterio announced that a tournament would be held with some of WWE’s best luchadores from Raw, SmackDown, and AAA, with the winner earning a World Heavyweight Championship match on Raw in Mexico City. The luchadores chosen for this tournament will want to take advantage of this opportunity, but is there one luchador who stands out above the rest? Will Penta be the one to win it all and step up to the ‘OTC’?
Penta has been one of WWE’s most popular stars ever since he arrived to the company in January 2025. He competed in his first WrestleMania match just a few months later and continued having excellent matches on WWE television. Penta’s hard work finally paid off in 2026 when he captured the Intercontinental Championship off of ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio. He successfully defended the title in an entertaining ladder match at WrestleMania 42. Over the next few months, Penta continued to show off his amazing high-flying skills with every title defense. He retained the title up until SummerSlam 2026, where he lost the title to Chad Gable in an amazing back-and-forth encounter. Now that Penta has lost the midcard title, now is the time to put him in the main event title scene.
Reigns agreeing to defend his World Heavyweight Championship in Mexico City is another example of the character development he’s been displaying in 2026. After capturing the title from CM Punk at WrestleMania 42, the ‘OTC’ has shown a new side of him, one that continues to lead the Bloodline but doesn’t rely on them interfering in his matches. He defeated Jacob Fatu multiple times, forcing him to join the Bloodline and in the main event of SummerSlam 2026, he exercised his demons and defeated Seth Rollins without any interference or controversies. Reigns had shown that he can do it all, with or without the Bloodline by his side. He currently is in a feud with L.A. Knight, and a possible feud with Solo Sikoa could also lead to a Bloodline WarGames match in the future. Regardless, Reigns continues to find the opportunity to step up to anyone who challenges him. After speaking with Mysterio and accepting the offer to defend the title against the winner of the tournament, Reigns wants to continue to silence the doubters and show the world he can back up everything that he says.
Penta will compete in the first round of the tournament against Laredo Kid. Losing the Intercontinental title allows Penta to move up on the card and find his way in the main event. Reigns and Penta have never met in singles competition, and having the luchador winning the tournament and competing against the ‘OTC’ in his home country will make the special occasion even more memorable. Raw in Mexico City will be an amazing show without a doubt, and if Penta wins the tournament, then the main event will surely deliver.
