Will Cowboys Veteran Quarterback Play in Their Season Finale?
With one game left remaining in the 2025 season for the Dallas Cowboys, many believe this is the chance to see players on the roster who have not gotten the chance to play. Players on offense, such as Jonathan Mingo or T.J. Bass, have not gotten a chance to play but are sitting behind all-pros and Pro Bowlers in their respective positions. One position in question is whether Joe Milton, who plays quarterback, could get action. However, as much as Milton wants to play, Dak Prescott wants to finish the season strong.
Prescott, in his post-game interview after the Commanders' game on Christmas, was adamant that he wants to play against the Giants. A major sense of pride is a key factor, as not once, when he has played a full season, have the Cowboys ended the season under .500. He also loves anytime he has the opportunity to play the game, so even playing in a meaningless game means a lot to him. Another key note is that if he does suit up, his 14-game win streak against the Giants will be on the line again, and he is three games off from breaking an NFL record.
With Prescott wanting to play in the last game of the season, there are several reasons why he should not. First is his injury history; in a game that has no implications besides draft positioning, playing Prescott with a chance of injury makes no sense. Prescott has two season-ending injuries, one in 2020 and one last season in 2024, so the risk of sending him out there for a full game is unlikely. Not playing Prescott could increase the likelihood of losing, which would benefit the Cowboys by improving their draft position ahead of a crucial NFL draft in April. The likely scenario is that Prescott suits up to play; however, he only gets to play in the first quarter at most until halftime. This gives Prescott the ability to play and lets Milton still get action in the regular season. As much as fans prefer to lose this game, the Cowboys want to end this season on a high note and for Prescott to get his 15th win in a row against New York.
