Can the Jets Live Up to These Three Predictions in 2025?

NFL

With only a week left until the start of the NFL season for the New York Jets, it’s time to start looking at what’s ahead for the team. Although the last few seasons have been nothing short of disappointing, a new culture surrounding the team has already changed the vibes during the preseason. However, there are certainly still many question marks surrounding the team, including preseason passing issues from quarterback Justin Fields, the continuation of a years-long issue surrounding penalties, as well as culture shock from some players. While only time will tell how the team will perform throughout the season, here are three predictions for how the season may go.

Aaron Glenn Brings a Mentality That Stays Throughout the Season

This preseason, it was already evident that Aaron Glenn brought an energy that the Jets haven’t seen in years. With the change in culture that he brought, players were being held accountable for their actions on and off the field. While it’s common for fans to get excited after a new coach comes in, Jets fans haven’t been able to keep their excitement about a coach into the regular season in quite a few years. Glenn’s mentality is going to keep players wanting to put their best selves on the field, which is going to ultimately extend to their record.

Justin Fields Will Have the Most Rushing Yards Among Quarterbacks

The Jets are in desperate need of positive quarterback play, and Fields has the ability to give that to them. Despite problems with passing that were addressed in the preseason, Fields has the ability to contribute to the running game in a positive way. In his career, Fields has 2,509 rushing yards. In 2022, which was arguably his best NFL season, Fields rushed for 1,143 yards. For comparison, Breece Hall only had 876 rush yards last season. Fields has the opportunity to be the team's lead rusher, even with a talented group of running backs on the Jets. With the production he will be giving, it’s hard to see him not as the leader for most rushing yards among NFL quarterbacks.

Jets Will Finish Over .500

The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since the early 2010s, and this year probably won’t be the year to break that streak. However, there’s a very good chance that Glenn’s new mentality and the players being held accountable lead to the Jets’ first winning season in 10 years. If the energy that the team is currently emitting continues, the players will continue to put their best foot forward and play the best football that they can. If the Jets are able to beat the teams they should beat, they can at least finish with a winning season.
