Is Now the Right Time for the NXT Tag Team Champions to Have One Final Run on the WWE’s Main Roster?
Tomorrow night, the Hardy Boyz will defend their NXT Tag Team Championships against DarkState at Halloween Havoc. The Cameron, NC natives beat NXT’s most formidable faction for the belts at the recent ShowDown event, which pitted NXT taking on TNA in a series of matches. On the October 21st episode of NXT, the Hardy Boyz reintroduced their “woken” characters, which gained popularity on the indie scene and in other promotions such as TNA and Ring of Honor, to the NXT Universe. These characters, “Woken” Matt Hardy and Brother Nero, will face off against DarkState in a Broken Rules match on the Spookiest Night of the Year. In what will most likely be a successful retention for the future WWE Hall of Famers, the question remains: What is next for the Hardy Boyz? I believe that they should have one more run in WWE’s main roster.
Currently, the tag team scene on both brands is obsolete, pun intended. On the October 20th episode of Raw, the Judgment Day finally defended their World Tag Team Championships, in what seemed like months, against the team of AJ Styles and Dragon Lee, and the championships changed hands. On SmackDown, the WWE Tag Team Champions, the Wyatt Sicks, are starting a feud with MFT, so at least there is a plan for the belts on the blue brand. However, if the WWE wanted to bring a sparkplug or some juice to the Raw Tag Team Division, then bringing the 14-time World Tag Team Champions would be a smart move. The Hardy Boyz could bring experience, charisma, and legacy to a division that desperately needs a foundation tag team for teams to face. The World Wide Leader in Sports Entertainment has thrown together teams in hopes of building their division. Having the Hardys will help bring relevancy to the division, and the former Raw Tag Team Champions can work with anybody.
Another run at championship gold on the red brand would be a dream for the Hardys and their fans. Matt and Jeff Hardy are WWE legends, and as the company moves towards the future of building new stars while giving flowers to their legends, this would be a great move on WWE’s part to bring them in to revitalize the RAW tag team division. They could still do it while being on TNA contracts. Joe Hendry worked WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble this year while being under a TNA contract; the four-time TNA World Tag Team Champions can do the same. There was talk of B & B Security getting a run with the World Tag Team Championships; however, those plans had to change due to an injury to the World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins, who was betrayed by his Vision faction members.
Now, with the team that is affectionately nicknamed “AJ Lee” as the World Tag Team Champions, the WWE needs to build challengers, but they have to use actual tag teams and not just makeshift teams that they throw together. Bringing in the Hardy Boyz would help set the tone for what the tag team division on the red brand should be. Matchups against the War Raiders, LWO, the New Day, and the Usos would do wonders for the division, and dropping the belts to either of those teams after a good run with the belts would help the division in the long run. Getting a championship victory over one of the most decorated tag teams of all-time would provide a great boost for the winning team, and it would usher in a new era for the RAW Tag Team Division. So, it's time for the Hardy Boyz to have one last run on the main roster to help elevate the red brand’s tag team division and leave it better than they found it.
