Season Coming to an End: Can Arsenal End Their Major Title Drought in 2026?

It is no secret that Arsenal has not won a title for a while. The Gunners have never stopped being a top-tier team, but for the last six years, they have not been able to bring a major cup back home. This season seemingly sparked new hope for the fans, who have been waiting eagerly for their team to win a trophy. After leading the Premier League for virtually the entirety of the season and qualifying for the Champions League final, a major title seems to be at a reachable distance. Will this be the year Arsenal finally puts an end to their cup drought, or will they miss just when they are at the closest?

Mikel Arteta’s crew has been having an exemplary season in the Premier League. Leading from early in the season, Arsenal has showcased its intentions of breaking its titleless cycle. However, Manchester City had been tailing them from the start, and after winning the EFL Cup this season after defeating Arsenal 2-0, it is clear that the Citizens will not walk away without a fight. On Wednesday, they narrowed the difference to two points after defeating Crystal Palace 3-0, and today they won the FA Cup final against Chelsea 1-0. With such a rival stepping on their heels, Arsenal will not have it easy.

However, the Premier League is not the only arena the Gunners are currently playing in. In two weeks' time, Arsenal will be facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. PSG is last year’s title holder, which complicates things for the Gunners, because they will be facing a more experienced adversary. Arsenal has never won the Champions League, but they were in a final 20 years ago. The precedent is not great; they lost 2-1 to Barcelona and had to settle for the silverware.

Getting that coveted trophy is not going to be a simple affair for Arsenal, but fans must remember that that is the nature of Major League Soccer. Manchester City has been closing the gap these past few weeks, intensifying the race for the title. Surely, this is not great news for Arsenal, but it is for soccer fans around the world who love to see teams fighting for a trophy until the very end. All the incoming matches will test Arsenal’s quality, and perhaps reward them with a title.
