Top Giants Battles to Watch During Training Camp

NFL

Training camps around the NFL are just a few weeks away. There has been plenty to watch from each team. In the Meadowlands, there are several areas that need to be watched. Now, the teams are preparing to make final decisions, and team members need to prove themselves to earn the starting role this coming season. Here are the top three training camp battles to watch this offseason.

The first highly anticipated battle at the Giants’ training camp is the quarterback battle. It is presumed that veteran Russell Wilson is going to be the starter, but don’t count rookie Jaxson Dart out. He impressed and opened up the type of quarterback he is during OTAs. There is also Jameis Winston, the team's wildcard quarterback. He’s experienced and unpredictable, but he can make some noise. This competition is going to go deep into the summer with no decision as to who will be the quarterback before the preseason begins.

The wide receiver room is another highly anticipated battle on the offensive side to keep an eye on. This battle could shape how the offensive identity is going to turn out his season. They have Jalin Hyatt, who is going to have a make-or-break year after bulking up during the offseason. The Giants also have Malik Nabers, who brings much of the ability to make things happen when needed. If he can stay healthy, Nabers will start no matter what. The Giants also have a rookie dark horse in Da’Quan Felton, who has already been turning heads. He has the routes down and size. Depth is an area that needs to be worked on, but this battle is going to shape the Giants' offensive identity.

On the offensive side of the Giants, the left guard position seems to be one battle that everyone has been watching. After struggling at tackle, the Giants decided to move Evan Neal to left guard. This move could be a career saver for him. However, Neal is challenged by veterans Jon Runyan Jr and Greg Van Roten, who bring a lot more experience and consistency than he does. This position is one battle to keep an eye on.

There are going to be battles in all positions as to who will start for the Giants this season. A bonus area to also keep an eye on is the running back room. Certain players, such as Cam Skattebo and second-year back  Eric Gray, may be getting the first crack at the starting role, but their coaches have to see how they will both do in training camp this year. It all depends on how everyone shows what they have and shows the franchise that they want to start.
