Why Dart Should Start in the Second Half of the Season

NFL

The New York Football Giants have a tough season ahead of them. They have several prime-time games and several games where they will be playing last season's playoff contenders and Super Bowl superstars. They will be starting Russell Wilson and most likely Jameis Winston for most of the season. However, they need to get their rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart, on the field at some point, not just during the preseason.

The Giants have four quarterbacks in total for this season. Their quarterback room has all different playing styles between the four of them. Very few will get to play during the regular season. With Wilson and Winston being the front two quarterbacks, Tommy DeVito and Dart will sit back and not see much field action at all. DeVito may play but Dart most likely will only see the preseason and even that is currently questionable.

The Giants are talking about not starting Dart at all this season, and that would be probably one of the worst decisions that Big Blue could make. If they make the rookie sit on the sidelines for almost the entire season, the former Ole Miss QB will lose a lot of the mobility and the athleticism he is still currently carrying from his college days. It would also be good for him to get used to playing in the fast-paced dynamics of this Giants football team. Getting him warmed up to playing with them will help with learning from the two veterans.

It would not be a good time to start Dart first half with how tough the schedule is. It would not be a good look for the Giants either. Putting Dart in that early would put this football team back to square one. It would be better to get him playing a little bit during the second half of the season. When they play the slower teams, such as the Patriots, the Vikings, and a few other teams. It would be a great way for him to get a feel of how this works.

The Giants need to seek out their softer opportunities. They have a lot of bumps they need to work through in the first half. If they can find them, they can get their young rookie quarterback on the field during the regular season and not just during the preseason. Preseason will help Dart out. Although being able to see how he does during the actual season will show the Giants and both the veteran quarterbacks what Dart is going to need before year three, when he becomes the Giants' permanent franchise quarterback.
