New York Giants Cut Fan Favorite Quarterback

NFL

The New York Football Giants have spent a lot of the weekend cutting down their roster to the 53-man roster before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. EST deadline. There have been multiple cuts, trades, and practice squad additions during this time from all 32 teams. However, as of today, the Giants have decided to officially cut Tommy DeVito from the team altogether. It is a sad day for Big Blue fans seeing one of their favorite eras come to an end. Many thought that Devito was going to see the practice squad, or there were talks of a trade being put together for him, but that did not come together.

Earlier in the offseason, DeVito was signed to an extended contract. This was after last season, when he and former quarterback Drew Lock were both put in after the Giants and former quarterback Daniel Jones parted ways. He flashed on the field whenever he got the chance to play and became an overnight sensation the season before, when both Jones and now New York Jets backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor were out with injuries. The Giants won three straight games with him, helping them that season go 6-11. DeVito played in 12 games over the last two seasons. He started in eight games and went 3-5 altogether.

It’s not going to be easy for many Giants fans. They got excited when this New Jersey native came onto the field to play.  However, many knew that as of Thursday night, when the Giants took on the New England Patriots, DeVito may have just played his last game with the Giants. It was a great game for him, helping New York push through and score several needed touchdowns during the preseason. Since then, the Giants have stayed quiet on what their moves were going to be and who was going to stay. It was hard to envision DeVito staying with the quarterback room, as it was. No team in the NFL usually carries four quarterbacks on its roster. However, with DeVito moving to waivers as of today, there may be potential landing spots for him.
